MICHIGAN STATE CAPITOL

The Michigan State Capitol is located in downtown Lansing at the intersection of Michigan and Capitol avenues. Guided tours are offered year round, Monday through Saturday every half hour.


LANSING LUGNUTS

 

Olds Park is the home of the Lansing Lugnuts, the minor league baseball team of the Chicago Cubs. The Lugnuts were the 1997 league champs, and regular season runs from April through August.


MICHIGAN STATE SPARTANS

 

The Spartans play a short drive from downtown Lansing. Michigan State University is one of the country's leading research centers, and has a student body of around 40,000 which come from around the world.


MICHIGAN SPEEDWAY

Located in Brooklyn, Michigan is Michigan Speedway, home to NASCAR racing. Considered one of motorsports premier tracks, it is a 2 mile long oval which features high banks and a wide surface.


RIVER TRAIL

River Trail is a six mile long track that runs along the Grand River as well as the Red Cedar River. It extends from Clippert Street to Dietrich Park. This path is used for rollerblading, biking, and walking.


R.E. OLDS TRANSPORTATION MUSEUM

At the R.E. Olds Transportation Museum you can see the Oldsmobile cars, trucks, and planes which rolled off the lines here in Lansing and from other cities, including the very first Oldsmobile ever made. You can also view the Cutlass 442 which was used in the movie "Demolition Man". It is open year round, except on major holidays.


MICHIGAN HISTORICAL MUSEUM

The Michigan Historical Museum is located along with the State Archives of Michigan and the Library of Michigan in the downtown district. There are over 20 exhibits on four levels, including the 1957 autoshow and a 1920's street scene. There is no admission fee, and it is open year round.


LIBRARY OF MICHIGAN

The Library of Michigan is the second largest state library in the nation, consisting of 5.6 million items and 27 miles of shelving. Founded in 1828, it is Michigan's version of the Library of Congress. It is open 7 days, but closed on official holidays.


POTTER PARK ZOO

Potter Park Zoo is home to over 400 species of animals. It is over 100 acres of oak forests and gardens, and home to such animals as Siberian tigers, snow leopards, East African black rhinoceroses, and penguins. It is open year round.


Wharton Center for Performing Arts 

The Wharton Center is home to many various activities through out the year and is located on the campus of Michigan State University.
